As Sweet Deliverance’s mission explains, “We provide a direct link between the production and consumption of wholesome food while celebrating a mutually respectful and beneficial partnership between the farmer and consumer.” Kelly gets ingredients for her menus from her CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) to obtain the most freshly picked vegetables, fruits, and herbs. Operating out of Brooklyn, and delivering to most of New York City, Kelly has created a subscription model of premade meals for busy families who are happily health-conscious.
The rest of the story is the result of too much fruit: her menus weren’t fully supporting the bounty of local fruit, so rather than letting it go to waste, she began to make jam. Now Kelly is a real pro when it comes to preserving. Her line of jams, chutneys, syrups, marmalades, and organic candied citrus peels are not only incorporated into her menus, but also sold at a variety of neighborhood gourmet shops. She's received plenty of accolades, including a Good Food Award for her Ground Cherry Jam, made from the tiny yellow fruit tasting a bit like a cross between a tomato and a pineapple. She’s also published a book on preserving called Tart and Sweet: 101 Canning and Pickling Recipes for the Modern Kitchen this past March.
Kelly loves a challenge in the kitchen, so in that spirit, we challenge you to put down one of her jars once you’ve tasted what’s inside. Good luck with that.
